Questions and Answers

Do you offer unlimited disk space, bandwidth, or databases?
No, we do not. We put limits on our disk space, bandwidth, and number of databases to ensure that we’re able to provide disk space, bandwidth, and network resources - as well as rapid server response times - to all of our clients. Limiting our disk space and bandwidth lets us distribute our clients evenly across our servers so that everyone, no matter how large or small their sites may be, gets to have a web presence that loads quickly and runs scripts cleanly.

Do you ever change your hosting plan specifications or prices?
In the six years we have been offering hosting services, our hosting plan specs have increased four times. Our prices have never risen.

Do you have a maximum database size, or a limit on the number of simultaneous database connections?
We limit our database sizes to 1 GB per database. At this time, we do not limit the number of simultaneous database connections.

Do you limit CPU usage per account?
We cannot give a firm number — this many cycles per account per day, for example — but we do contact clients when we notice that a particular script or process is using an excessive percentage of CPU resources on a given server. We may ask that the problematic script in question be removed, if it has known security or programming flaws; or we may ask that the client upgrade to the latest version of the script in order to avoid the excessive CPU usage spikes.

I don’t like your existing hosting plans. Can I build a custom hosting plan?
You can use our contact form to request a quote on your custom hosting plan. Please include your desired disk space, bandwidth, POP email accounts, databases, FTP accounts, subdomains, and mailing lists in your quote. Any custom hosting plans will be billed on a semiannual basis. Custom hosting plans will also not have their resource limits increased when we upgrade our regular hosting accounts.

If you are interested in one of our shared hosting accounts but just want more domains, more disk space, or more databases than are available with that particular plan, you may wish to purchase extra features a la carte. If you choose this method, your account will get increased resources whenever we upgrade all of our hosting plans.

Can I have a dedicated IP for my account?
We sell dedicated IP addresses to our clients who have SSL certificates installed, for those SSL certificates. We do not sell dedicated IPs for our shared hosting customers.

Can I split up my account and let my friend use it, too?
You may allow your friends to access your account; however, as the account holder of record, you will be held solely responsible for all billing, as well as any security breaches or any violations of our TOS committed by anyone accessing your account. Your friends will also not be able to have their own hosting control panels, nor will they be able to contact us with support questions or use our support resources. If you wish to provide hosting accounts for your family, friends, or design clients, you may wish to sign up for a reseller account with The Living Media, another company of TLM Network.

I want to build a huge community site that has lots of features. Can I do that with a shared hosting account?
You can certainly start your community on a shared hosting account - start small and upgrade as you need the additional resources. Depending on the size and scope of your community, you may be able to run it on a shared hosting account for years. Be advised that at a certain point your community may outgrow a shared hosting server - your account may simply grow to the point that it will be using too much traffic, too many CPU cycles, or may require too much disk space. When this happens, we can work with you to migrate to a less-populated server and a larger hosting plan.

Do you offer VPS or dedicated servers?
We currently offer VPS (virtual private servers) and fully-managed dedicated servers to long-term clients whose account needs require more resources than can be comfortably handled on a shared server. While we may move to offering these services to the general public at some point in the future, we do not currently.

How many accounts do you have on each server? Do you oversell?
We have between 60 to 150 accounts per server, depending on server hardware and account sizes. While all web hosts oversell to a certain degree, we minimally oversell our disk space and do not oversell our bandwidth. We also load-balance our servers so that no one server will serve up web sites more slowly than others in our network.
